Summary:
Without Jesus we are broken and incomplete, but He wants to make us brand new. This lesson teaches where a new life in Christ begins.
Lesson Introduction Props – Videotape of a car refurbishing show like Overhauling or Trick My TruckHave you ever heard about those shows on TV where they take an old car and make it better than when it was brand new? I remember one episode where the car was so broken they couldn’t fix it anymore. The car had a front half from one car and a back half from another. This car was held together with a few welds and in some places with glue. The men at the shop were unable to remake that car because it was too dangerous to drive. So, they went and bought a brand new car and put all kinds of computers and sound systems and cool graphics on the outside. When they were done that car looked really cool. And the best part is that the guy who owned the car didn’t have to pay for any of it. Even if the owner wanted to pay for it he couldn’t because he didn’t make enough money. Just like the car owners on those TV shows don’t have to pay for a brand new car, God will save us for free. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life.” Salvation is totally free. You don’t have to earn it or pay for it or anything. You just have to ask for it. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” The old cars on TV also fall short because they are old and falling apart. Some are held together with glue, duct tape or bailing wire. But the men that fix them up don’t care. They fix every dent and repair the motor or sometimes they go buy a new car for the owner. We are like those cars before we ask God to forgive us. We are doing the best we can to patch ourselves together, but it never is good enough. We are all broken and need God to make us brand new again. He will make us completely brand new for free.

Object Lesson - Props: Bring a real baby into kids church. How many of you have ever held a baby? Did you have to help the baby in any way? (Allow for responses.) Until a baby is several months old he can’t even hold his head up without help. They have to have help getting dressed and eating and going to the bathroom. Most babies don’t even start to walk until they’re about one year old. Babies must grow in order to stay alive. They have to eat and sleep and exercise to grow strong. Christians are the same way. When you get saved it’s just like you are starting a new life. You will start out and you need help knowing how to pray or witness. You need help knowing how to study the Bible. Some of you even need help reading the Bible. All of you need help getting to church. But when you get saved you must do those things that will help you grow or you won’t be healthy. So, when you are young in the faith and even when you grow up you must always do those things that will help you continue to grow – pray, study the Bible, witness, and go to church. Justin/ Christy
