December 28th

Early Service: Kevin, Chandra, Justin
Late Sevice: Christy, Chandra, Lisa & Harvey

Media: Justin/ Lisa

Main Idea: Christ came to die for our sins.

Worship: God So Loved the World - Youtube or new Hillsongs DVD, (learn it here)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCX6uz19hAk, One Way Jesus - Hillsong DVD

Memory Verse: John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not parish but have ever lasting life.

Lesson: John 3:16 Salvation for the new year

Illustrated lesson: Sand Dollar:
The markings on a sand dollar represent aspects of Christ's birth and death. 1. The five-point outline on the front of the sand dollar represents the star of Bethlehem. 2. The five holes in the sand dollar represent the pierced hands, feet, and side of Christ. 3. When the sand dollar is opened, it yields five small objects that look remarkably like doves in flight, thus representing the Holy Spirit.

Game: New Year game

December 21st

Early Service: Christy, Chandra, Lisa & Harvey
Late Service: Kevin, Chandra, Tim & Rhonda

Media: Lisa/Rhonda

Main Idea: Nativity Story - The Savior came in an unexpected way

Lesson: Christmas Story - Christy/ Chandra

Memory Verse: For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a savior, He is Christ the Lord.

Object Lesson:
Have 2 gifts wrapped up or in a gift bag, one should be really fancy and the other should be plain. Have a rock or something a child would not be interested in (a broken toy, an egg beater, you get the idea) in the fancy package. Have something the kids would really like in the plain package (I pod, $20.00 bill,). You don’t have to let the kids keep the item (unless you want them too)Presenting the lesson: Talk about how fancy the one package is and you can hardly wait to find out what is in it. The other package is okay but it does not look that good. Must not be anything too interesting in there. Someone went through a lot of time to make this one look so pretty! (and so on)Pick a child to come up and ask what package they would choose if one was for them. (most will pick the nice package. HINT: The older children may have seen an object lesson like this before. Pick a young child, they will be most likely to pick the pretty package especially if it is a girl!!!)Ask them why they picked the package they did….(It is so pretty, It is bigger)Let the child open it to see what is inside. Act surprised - ”Wow such a pretty package and a disappointing gift inside!”Point of lesson to share with the children: Before Jesus came people were expecting a King to come and rescue them. They had been told a Messiah would come to save them. They expected someone who was rich and powerful to rescue them from the Romans who ruled over them and were very mean. They cried out to God to send them a Savior. They weren’t expecting the Son of God to come to a stable. They did not expect Him to be born in a family that was not living in a palace. But here God gave them the best gift He ever gave and many missed receiving the gift because they wanted God to do it their way and not His way. The gift God gave wasn’t in a pretty package like this - show pretty package (or what is left of it) The gift He gave was just a ordinary looking package. What was inside though was the biggest surprise ever! Open the ordinary gift and let the kids see the great gift in the plain package. If people would have looked inside the plain package, the baby born in a manager they would have seen the great gift God sent. He did send them a Savior, a Messiah but He wasn’t sent to save them from the Romans. He was sent to save them from their sins which was a even greater gift then they could ever have guessed!! Have you received this gift? Christy/ Chandra

December 7th

Early Service: Christy, Lisa, Harvey, Chandra
Late Service: Chandra, Tim, Rhonda, Justin, Melissa
Media: Lisa/Rhonda & Justin

From 12:30 - 2:30 pm we will be having a children's Christmas program practice. We will be serving Pizza right after the second service. If you can stay and help with either the pizza serving part or the entire time and help with the drama practice too then let me know.

Main Idea: When I am righteous, God will lead me through the challenging things that are required of me.

Memory Verse:"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Colossians 3:12

Have the memory verse written on the board. Give the children paper and markers. Have each child select one of the five characteristics; compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness or patience, and draw a picture of someone showing this quality. You may want to offer suggestions, for example a mom putting a bandage on a small child to show compassion, or a boy petting a small dog to show gentleness. All/All done in small groups

Tape the pictures drawn on the board in the correct order. Then see how well the kids can say the entire verse using the pictures as a guide. Christy/ Justin

Lesson: Joseph is visited by an angel in a dream. Chandra/ Chandra
Introduction: Before Jesus was born, there was a righteous man who was a descendent of King David. His name was Joseph. He was engaged to Mary, a young woman who was also a virgin. In those ancient times when someone was engaged, it was almost like they were married, except they did not live in the same house. The engagement was a serious commitment compared to today's practices. In fact, the only way to break if off was to get a divorce. Joseph loved Mary very much, but when he found out she was already pregnant, he was very disappointed. But being a reasonable and decent person, he decided not to get mad, or let anyone know what was going on. If he told anyone, Mary would be in real big trouble. So instead, Joseph quietly planned a divorce. Let's see what happened next. We will use our scene # 2 from our play here as well with Joseph and the Angel.

Game: This is an easy fun game to play anywhere. Kids each get a partner. They put their backs to each other on the count of three they turn and face each of with a poise. (This is kinda like the rock, paper, scissor game) The poises are Mary - a girl poise hand on hip and head, Joseph - muscle man poise, flexing both arms, Angel - flap arms like wings. This is who wins who, Mary wins Joseph, Joseph wins Angel, Angel wins Mary. Keep playing until one is left standing. A special prize for the winner is great! If there is someone who doesn’t have a partner they get a free pass to the next round of play. All/ All

Worship: Angels Among Us (From Youtube), Never Give Up (Hillsong- Superhero DVD) and Better Than Life (Hillsong-Supernatural DVD) Christy/ Melissa

Illustrated Life Application activity:
"So Don't Worry"
Worrying tears away at being able to enjoy the many pleasures life brings.
Materials: Copies of handout for each child. Duration:Approximately 5 minutes
Topics: Peace, Worry Target Age:Grades 2 3 4 5
Preparation: Before class, print and copy hand out
What you will do during class: First, give children a copy of the handout, and have them examine the pictures. Explain to the class that everything on the page is something enjoyable. Having a happy birthday, getting a shiny new bike, being able to play in "the big game of the season", going to the circus and of course, getting a new little puppy. Ask the children "Which of these would you like to have or do?" Explain that worrying can take away from being able to fully enjoy these things. "What kinds of things do you worry about?"
If the children do not offer examples of things they worry about, you can suggest the following:
1. Worrying about getting a good grade on a test
2. Worrying about whether other children in the neighborhood will like you
3. Worrying about you mom or dad finding out you did something wrong
4. Worrying about what others will think if you do not do well at sports
5. Worrying about the way you look
As you share the first example of something the children might worry about, have them tear off the Birthday cake from the handout, and toss it in the trash. Give another example and have them tear off the bicycle and toss it into the trash. Repeat giving examples and tearing away at the pictures on the paper until the children have nothing left.
Explain that worrying can be like this. If we spend too much time worrying, or if we worry about too many things, what should be enjoyable is not any more. So what should we do when something happens that might cause us to worry? The Bible says, "Cast all your worries upon Him, because he cares for you" (1Peter 5:7) so let Jesus do the worrying, so you can enjoy the things God gives you.

Main Idea: When I am righteous, I am ready to be used and favored by God.

Activity for Life Application:
Give an index card and pencil to each child as they arrive. Ask them to write down at least four things about themselves that make them likeable. When everyone has at least four things, collect all the cards. Then read them one by one to the class and have the kids try to guess who it is. After everyone has guessed, let the owner of the card speak up. How many did each child guess correctly?
This activity will prepare the kids to think about characteristics that are pleasing to God.

By All-We will work in several small groups on these.

Memory Verse:"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" Colossians 3:12.

Lesson: Mary is met by Gabriel Chandra/ Chandra
Introduction:Many years ago in Galilee, in a town called Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. She was about to be married. During those days, it was customary for girls to be promised to be given away as young brides as soon as they reached puberty, about twelve years old. This custom was called betrothal, or engagement. The girl's parents had a lot to do with these decisions, not like today where the man and woman decide if they want to get married. A betrothal indeed is not a practice in our culture today, but that was not the only unusual thing about Mary's engagement. She also had a strange visitor before just before she was married. This visitor gave her news that was not only surprising, but it turned out to be Good News for all ages to come. Our story today is found in Luke 1:26-38.

We will also incorporate our scene being worked on from our play here.

Life Application: Read current day Angel Story from Book and get feed back from kids of just what they think of it. Rhonda/ Justin

Game:
Knock-Knock

The king/queen will judge the kid's ability to describe a situation that is pleasing to God. If accepted by the king/queen, they can enter his kingdom.

Materials:Index cards, Basket or Shoebox, €hair for a throne,Crown -Duration:15 minutes

What you will do: Write the following words on index cards, one word on each card, and place the cards in a shoebox or basket. Repeat the words as needed to have enough cards for each child. KINDNESS GENTLENESS FRIENDLY PATIENCE COMPASSION FORGIVENESS
Have the King or Queen sit on a chair (throne) at one end of the room, and have the remaining kids draw one card from the basket. Then have them line up in front of the king. The object is for children to come up with a situation that describes the word on their card. For example, if they picked the card KINDNESS, the child may say something like "My little brother wanted to play with my toys, so I let him. This is Kindness." The king will judge if the situation truly described the word kindness, and if so, will let the child enter the kingdom. What you will say: (After selecting the king and lining up the children with their cards) The king is a very wise king. He wants to be sure you know what is pleasing to God before he lets you enter his kingdom. That is why the king gave each of you a word. You must show the king you know the meaning of the word by giving an example of something you can do that matches the word. For example, if your word is CARING, you could give me an example like "My grandma was sick, so I help her by cleaning her house." If the king agrees that your example describes being CARING, he will let you enter the kingdom. If he does not agree, you pick another word from the basket, go to the end of the line and try again.
The play starts with each of you saying, "Knock-Knock." The king will ask, "What word do you have?" then each of you, in turn, will say your word and then your example. If the king accepts your example, he will say, "Please enter my kingdom." If the king does not accept it, he will say, "Sorry, be away with you."
The make believe kingdom in this game may resemble heaven, but it is not heaven. There is no way to get to heaven on our own, not by what we know or what we do. That's because heaven is a free gift. Only by receiving Jesus in our heart do we receive this wonderful gift.
However, as children it is important to know what behaviors are Godly and what behaviors are a result of a sinful nature. By knowing the difference, we can begin to recognize there is a lot of sin in our life. When we admit we are sinners, we begin to understand the need for God's grace and forgiveness.
